Contrary to any rumblings out there, you can count on today’s youth to step up and make a difference. How do we know? We know De’Quae.
You can never guess who you’ll meet on any given day. De’Quae, then a junior in high school, was out collecting donations for his ROTC troop when he approached Cheryl. She was captivated by his spirit. Imagine what happened next. He was invited to become part of Abacus.
The middle child of 11, he is the first in his family to finish high school and the first to attend college (Clemson, on scholarship, majoring in political science). “I am learning so much at Abacus – how to manage money and that nothing motivates you more than being respected. I want to show my siblings and peers that anything is possible.” That’s the spirit!
